Electoral Commission, candidates harmonise campaign schedules to ensure fair play ahead of Presidential Elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) Friday convened a crucial meeting with representatives of the eight nominated presidential candidates to meticulously align their campaign programmes.
This proactive step, taken ahead of the official campaign period commencing on September 29th, 2025, aims to prevent conflicts, ensure fairness, and foster a peaceful electoral environment across the nation.
Chaired by the Acting Secretary to the Commission, Richard Baabo Kamugisha, the session served as a vital platform for candidates’ representatives to present their proposed campaign itineraries.
The EC facilitated constructive discussions, working collaboratively to resolve any overlaps in proposed venues and dates, thereby guaranteeing that all candidates have equitable access to campaign spaces and opportunities.
The EC reiterated its commitment to upholding the principles of fairness and transparency in the electoral process. “We reaffirm that equal opportunities will be accorded to all candidates in line with electoral laws and guidelines,” the EC stated a.
This harmonisation of campaign schedules is a cornerstone of ensuring that the upcoming elections are conducted peacefully and that every candidate has a fair chance to present their platform to the electorate.
The meeting follows a rigorous two-day nomination exercise conducted on September 23rd and 24th, 2025, at the EC grounds in Lweza – Lubowa, Wakiso District.
Presided over by Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and Returning Officer for Presidential Nominations, this process saw eight aspirants successfully meet the stringent requirements of the Presidential Elections Act, Cap 179.
The nominated candidates who will vie for the nation’s presidency are Bulira Frank Kabinga of the Revolutionary Peoples Party (RPP), President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Kasibante Robert representing the National Peoples Party (NPP), Mabirizi Joseph from the Conservative Party (CP), Nandala Mafabi James Nathan of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Mugisha Gregory Muntu Oyera of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and Munyagwa Mubarak Sserunga of the Common Man’s Party (CMP).
With the nominations now concluded and campaign schedules being carefully coordinated, the nation gears up for an intensive period of political discourse and engagement as candidates prepare to officially launch their campaigns on September 29th.
