The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced significant date adjustments for several key regional conferences crucial to the upcoming 2025/2026 General Elections.
The changes affect the election of delegates for non-unionized workers, older persons, and national youth committees, following consultations with various stakeholders.
According to a press release issued by Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, these adjustments are part of the preparatory roadmap for the general elections.
Non-Unionized Workers’ Delegates: The Regional Conferences to elect non-unionized workers’ delegates to the national level, initially scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025, have been rescheduled.
These elections will now take place on Monday, September 1, 2025. The conferences will be held in the respective areas of representation: Central, Eastern, Northern, and Western Regions.
Older Persons’ Delegates: Similarly, the Regional Conferences for electing Regional Delegates to the National Council for Older Persons have also been moved.
These elections, previously set for Wednesday, August 27, 2025, will now be held on Friday, September 26, 2025.
National Youth Committees: The most substantial date change affects the Regional Conferences to elect the National Youth Committees.
Originally slated for August 27-29, 2025, these elections have been pushed to take place between October 1-3, 2025.
Justice Byabakama emphasized that these adjustments were made “in consultation with stakeholders.”
The Electoral Commission appeals to all concerned stakeholders to take note of the new dates and ensure their active participation in these regional conferences.
Participants are also advised to closely follow the guidelines that will be issued by the Electoral Commission regarding these electoral processes.
These elections are vital in ensuring broad representation across various demographic groups as the country prepares for the 2025/2026 General Elections.
