Eswatini delegation visits Kiira Motors to advance electric mobility partnership with Uganda

Ahigh-level delegation from the Kingdom of Eswatini has visited Uganda to strengthen cooperation in electric mobility and explore opportunities for collaboration with Kiira Motors Corporation.

The delegation, led by Principal Secretary Thulani Mkhaliphi of Eswatini’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport, was welcomed by Uganda’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation as part of efforts to advance the two countries’ partnership in sustainable transport solutions.

The visit follows growing ties between Uganda and Eswatini after the visit of His Majesty King Mswati III to Uganda and the Pearl to the Cape Expedition, during which Uganda’s Kiira EV bus successfully travelled through Eswatini. During that engagement, the Eswatini government expressed interest in procuring Ugandan electric buses and expanding cooperation in e-mobility.

The delegation’s engagements with Kiira Motors will focus on advancing the proposed electric bus partnership and identifying areas of cooperation in developing sustainable e-mobility industries in both countries.

The Minister said the collaboration demonstrates the role of Science, Technology and Innovation in transforming local innovations into trade, industrial partnerships, job creation and shared prosperity across Africa.

He noted that African countries have the capacity to design, manufacture and export world-class technologies while strengthening regional value chains.

The partnership is expected to further deepen relations between Uganda and Eswatini under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and His Majesty King Mswati III, as both nations work towards building an innovative and industrialised Africa.
