Gov’t seeks UGX 1.051 trillion supplementary budget for 2024/25
The proposal also seeks to cover wage and salary shortfalls identified by the Ministry of Public Service following a payroll audit conducted by the Office of the Auditor General.
The Ugandan government has submitted a request to Parliament for a supplementary expenditure of UGX 1.051 trillion for the 2024/25 financial year.
The proposal, representing 1.46% of the approved annual budget, was presented to the Budget Committee by the Minister of State for General Duties, Henry Musasizi, and the Minister of State for Planning, Amos Lugoloobi.
The additional funds are intended to address several critical areas. These include revoting money for World Bank-supported initiatives such as the Uganda Infrastructure Guarantee Fund Trust (UGIFT) and the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID).
The proposal also seeks to cover wage and salary shortfalls identified by the Ministry of Public Service following a payroll audit conducted by the Office of the Auditor General.
Key government priorities, including anti-cattle rustling operations in North and North Eastern Uganda, implementing the Rationalisation of Agencies (RAPEX) program, and bolstering peace and security measures, are among the major drivers of the supplementary budget.
Funding for the additional expenditure will be sourced from a mix of increased tax and non-tax revenue, additional borrowing, and already committed external financing.
The Budget Committee of Parliament will review the proposal and make its recommendations before it is debated by the House.
