Hoima Stadium takes shape ahead of 2027 AFCON

Turkish construction giant SUMMA is making impressive strides on Uganda’s second national stadium in Hoima City, with progress advancing at an impressive speed.

During a recent inspection, key figures such as Joseph Oluga, Assistant General Secretary of the National Council of Sports (NCS), and Engineering Officer Nicholas Zirimenya expressed their satisfaction with the project’s rapid development.

The $129 million multi-sports complex is expected to be completed ahead of its 18-month deadline.

Once finished, it will feature a 20,000-seat stadium, a 2,000-seat indoor multi-sports arena, a training pitch, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, and parking for over 1,000 vehicles. Outdoor courts for basketball, netball, and volleyball are also well underway.

This state-of-the-art facility is being built in preparation for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Uganda will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania. H

Hoima has been selected as one of Uganda’s host cities, and the stadium will play a significant role in the tournament. The swift progress reflects SUMMA’s expertise and the efficient supervision of the Ministry of Works and Transport, generating excitement for future international sporting events in Uganda.
