How MTN recovered Night Ampurire’s missing car

Rumors quickly spread that MTN had reclaimed the vehicle, a claim the telecom company dismissed. MTN pledged to assist Ms. Ampurire, and true to their word, their field team successfully located the truck.

MTN Uganda has successfully helped trace and recover Ms. Night Ampurire’s pickup truck at no cost after it was reported missing.

Ms. Ampurire, a fruit vendor from Entebbe, had received the truck from MTN last year after her story of delivering fruits in a dilapidated vehicle gained public attention. However, just weeks after receiving the vehicle, it broke down, and a Kampala-based mechanic was recommended for repairs.

Speaking on NTV Uganda, Ms. Ampurire revealed that the mechanic charged 800,000 shillings for the repairs, but she could only afford 700,000 shillings, which she paid in full. The mechanic then took the truck for a supposed road test but disappeared with it. After two weeks of silence, she sought help from the media.

Rumors quickly spread that MTN had reclaimed the vehicle, a claim the telecom company dismissed. MTN pledged to assist Ms. Ampurire, and true to their word, their field team successfully located the truck.

In a statement on its official social media platforms, MTN Uganda clarified that the vehicle had not been stolen but was being held by the mechanic due to the unpaid balance. The company intervened and took the truck to Nissan Motorcare for comprehensive repairs. Nissan carried out the repairs free of charge and returned the vehicle to Ms. Ampurire in excellent condition.

“MTN Uganda reached out to Ms. Night Ampurire, who clarified that she had handed over her vehicle to a mechanic for repairs. The vehicle was subsequently retrieved and taken to Nissan Motorcare last week,” the statement read.

“Nissan Motorcare completed all necessary repairs at no cost to Ms. Ampurire and returned the vehicle to her on Friday, January 24, 2025. We would like to clarify that the vehicle was never stolen, as previously alleged,” MTN added.

MTN Uganda expressed appreciation to Nissan Motorcare for their swift intervention and reiterated their commitment to supporting communities and maintaining public trust.
