If i don’t take their orders, they will eliminate me, late Sobi told Bobi Wine
It is alleged that in the incident that happened on land belonging to one Kalisa, in Kibaale LC one, Kigumba parish in the same district, a group of around 50 people armed with sticks, pangas and spears attacked another group who claimed the same land belongs to them.
Paddy Sserunjonji known to many as Sobi, a self-confessed former leader of Kifeesi, a criminal gang in Kampala, was killed in cold blood in Maddu Sub County in Gomba district during a fight for land.
It is alleged that in the incident that happened on land belonging to one Kalisa, in Kibaale LC one, Kigumba parish in the same district, a group of around 50 people armed with sticks, pangas and spears attacked another group who claimed the same land belongs to them.
Another group of people who claimed to be children and grandchildren of late Paul Kibi presented land titles, claiming the said land and the matter went up to court.
It is said that the other group hired goons from Kisenyi, in Kampala to clear the land and a fight ensued today, Monday leading to Sobi’s death.
Posting via his X account formerly twitter, NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine revealed how he met Sobi about 6 months ago, and he allegedly confessed that he was doing all his dirty work for the regime because it was his only way to stay alive.
According to Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, Sobi privately, and sometimes publicly talked about how he was always used by senior government officials, to commit crimes like robberies and land grabs on their behalf only to be imprisoned alone.
Kyagulanyi said many talented boxers of his generation have been used against their people, only to be eliminated when they were no longer needed.
“During the 2021 elections, he was used to trail and harass me, his own, old ghetto friend. He conducted the abduction and disappearance of over 50 of our friends, including fellow boxers like Vegas Lubega. Some of those who were lucky to return, narrated the ordeal they went through at Lwamayuba Island in Kalangala, where they were kept incommunicado; tortured, and treated as slaves for over a year,” he said.
The NUP President further noted that some of those people who were victims of Sobi, spoke of how they were summarily executed and fed to crocodiles. He said many of them have never been seen again, from the time Sobi was working under Kaka Bagyenda, then the head of ISO.
“Bro, you know I have no problem with you but if I don’t take their orders, they will eliminate me.” he said while talking to Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.
“I reminded him of Zebra, Kitatta, Isma Ichuli, and many others who have been used and later eliminated by the same regime. I told him that after being used, he would be eliminated in the most disgraceful manner,”
Kyagulanyi further stresses that Sobi complained about the many people he started with, but because of their connections in the regime, they had long been promoted to big offices leaving him to stay doing the dirty street work.
“I asked him to name just one person from this region who has been used against his or her people that ended up well but he couldn’t name even one. I told him to expect nothing but the worst ending,”
According to Nilepost, Sobi was also involved in several cases of land grabbing where he was allegedly used by ‘big shots’ to help them take ‘enticing’ pieces of land in any part of the country.
For example, in 2021, he was involved in forceful fencing off of four acres of a swamp in Nakuwadde village near Bulenga in Wakiso district. In 2022, Sobi introduced himself as a soldier from the Special Forces Command to grab a five acre piece of land from a 94-year-old man in Mukono district.
He raided Musa Mwanje’s land – measuring 5 acres on the orders of Fulgensio Ssembajwe, the administrator of the estate of the late John Lule Ssebakijja, a neighbour to Mwanje. Sobi says that before the death of Ssebakijja, he had bought 20 acres of land from Mwanje, and unfortunately after he died, the transfer process was not completed.
He said he had been promised 10 acres out of the 20 once he clears and fences off the contested land from that of Mwanje where he presented himself as an SFC operative hired to clear the contested land.
By the time of his death, Sserunjogi had recently mentioned he had political ambitions, especially aspiring for the position of Kampala Lord Mayor.
