Indian money lender killer cop remanded to Luzira prison
The accused person allegedly showered Bhandari with 9 Bullets over a disagreement on loan repayment.
The police constable, Wabwire Ivan, who shot dead an Indian money lender, has been sent on remand to Luzira prison by the Buganda Road magistrate court.
The suspect appeared today before the chief magistrate Sarah Tusiime Bashaija who read to him the murder charges.
However, while in court, the magistrate didn’t allow Wabwire to enter plea, due to lack of jurisdiction by her court.
“Wabwire’s case is a capital offence which attracts a maximum penalty of death upon conviction, and it’s only tried and bailable by the high court,” she noted.
Prosecution led by Buganda Road resident state attorney, Joan Keko, assisted by Ivan Kyazze informed the court that investigations into the matter are in advanced stages, as medics ascertain Wabwire’s mental health status.
It’s alleged that on May 12th 2023, while at Raja Chambers along the parliamentary avenue in Kampala, with malice and aforethought PC Ivan Wabwire unlawfully killed Uttam Bhandari Saremal who was the managing director of TFS financial services.
The accused person allegedly showered Bhandari with 9 Bullets over a disagreement on loan repayment.
This website learnt that while in an interrogation at CPS in Kampala, Wabwire agreed to kill the money lender without being apologetic, hence was taken to also record an extra judicial statement.
He has been ordered to return to court on June 7th, 2023, as investigations continue.
