While handing over the reflector jackets to the chairpersons of boda boda riders of each division at KCCA headquarters in Kampala this morning, Kisaka asked the riders to always wear reflectors especially in the dark, to reduce on the accidents.
Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), with support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), has donated five thousand reflector jackets to boda-boda riders operating in the five divisions of Kampala city.
According to Dorothy Kisaka, the Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority, the reflector jackets will help to reduce motorcycle accidents which are on the rise in the city and the country as a whole.
While handing over the reflector jackets to the chairpersons of boda boda riders of each division at KCCA headquarters in Kampala this morning, Kisaka asked the riders to always wear reflectors, especially in the dark, to reduce accidents.
“According to the Uganda Police 2021 Annual Crime Report, the fatalities among motorcyclists and their passengers were 1, 918 reflecting 46 percent of all road accident fatalities,” she noted.
Kisaka also explained that registration of boda boda riders and gazetting of boda boda stages in the city is not aimed at chasing boda boda riders from the city as many allege but is aimed at organizing their business and urging them to continue registering.
On the issue of introducing electronic bikes in the city, Kisaka said plans are in advanced stages, saying that some of the investors will be in the city.
Kisaka said that out of the one hundred and fifty thousand boda bodas in Kampala, only forty-two thousand have registered.
