Kiira police hailed for peaceful security during 2026 FIFA World Cup
Kiira Regional Police Commander SSP Charles Nsaba thanked the public for cooperating with security agencies throughout the tournament.
Football fans and members of the business community have commended the Kiira Regional Police Command for maintaining peace and security throughout the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament, which concluded on July 19 without any major security incidents in the region.
In a statement issued on Monday, Kiira Regional Police spokesperson SP James Mubi said bar owners, hotel operators, restaurant managers, and football fans praised the police for ensuring a safe environment during the month-long tournament.
The appreciation was conveyed by Baba Media Group presenter, popularly known as Shamlove, on behalf of entertainment venues across the region.
Businessman Joshua Waiswa Ekisma from Iganga said he frequently travelled between Iganga and Jinja City to watch World Cup matches, particularly those involving African teams, Spain and England, and experienced no security concerns.
“I have been driving back and forth from Iganga to Jinja City specifically to watch World Cup games, but we did not witness any security threats either in the city or along the Trans-African Highway,” he said.
Sports commentators Balondemu Joel and Mukisa Arafat, who covered the tournament live from June 11 to July 19, also noted that they did not record cases of theft or other major security breaches during the event.
Popular Busoga-based content creator and YY Media director Yaziid Yolisigira attributed the peaceful atmosphere in Jinja City to the coordinated efforts of security agencies, including the deployment of motorcycle patrol squads.
He described Jinja as one of Uganda’s leading tourism, cultural and entertainment destinations and expressed confidence that the city’s security arrangements would attract even more visitors during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Uganda will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania.
Kiira Regional Police Commander SSP Charles Nsaba thanked the public for cooperating with security agencies throughout the tournament.
He said football teaches values such as discipline, teamwork and unity, urging candidates and supporters in the ongoing Local Council I, Local Council II and Women Council elections to emulate the same spirit during campaigns and polling.
Nsaba cautioned political actors against using abusive language, causing violence or disrupting electoral activities, stressing the importance of respecting electoral guidelines and maintaining peace.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup concluded on Sunday, with Spain defeating Argentina 1-0 after extra time, courtesy of a goal by Ferran Torres, to lift the trophy.
