Labour officers receive training on dispute resolution and hearing procedures
The training, organised by the Judicial Training Institute in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development and the Industrial Court of Uganda, with support from the International Development Law Organization, aims to strengthen the capacity of labour officers in handling employment-related disputes.
A regional capacity-building programme for labour officers from Uganda’s Central Region, particularly the Kampala Metropolitan Area, has entered its second day at Imperial Golf View Hotel.
The training, organised by the Judicial Training Institute in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development and the Industrial Court of Uganda, with support from the International Development Law Organization, aims to strengthen the capacity of labour officers in handling employment-related disputes.
The second day began with a session on Labour Relations facilitated by Hon. Dora Christine Kanabahita Byamukama, followed by discussions where participants shared experiences and enhanced their understanding of labour matters.
The programme later focused on hearing procedures and taking evidence, with Employment and Labour Relations Practitioners Patson Arinaitwe and Ferdinand M. Kasheeka guiding participants on conducting fair hearings, evaluating evidence and applying proper procedures in resolving labour disputes.
The afternoon session will address writing awards and referrals to the Industrial Court, facilitated by Kasheeka, to equip officers with practical skills in preparing decisions and handling referrals.
The training is moderated by HW Daniel Lubowa, Assistant Registrar, Mediation.
