Mumbere calls for unity, inclusiveness in Rwenzururu kingdom
Mumbere stressed the rich historical presence of diverse tribes in the Rwenzori area and urged against division along tribal lines.
The Cultural Leader of the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu kingdom, Charles Wesley Mumbere, has emphasized that his cultural institution promotes inclusivity and does not discriminate among the various tribes in the Rwenzori region.
Speaking to Christians at St. Paul Cathedral in Kasese town, Mumbere stressed the rich historical presence of diverse tribes in the Rwenzori area and urged against division along tribal lines.
He urged people to prioritize unity, security, and improving their livelihoods.
Mumbere also acknowledged that, “Kasese’s unique position is a place where individuals from various backgrounds come to settle and contribute to the development of the district the region as a whole”
He reiterated the kingdom’s commitment to promoting peace, unity, andreconciliation as essential tools for social transformation.
Queen Agnes Ithungu welcomed Mumbere’s release and the release of royal guards, considering it a start for the cultural institution.
“I call upon all subjects of the Obusinga bwa wa Rwenzuurt to work towards peace and unity,”
South Rwenzori Bishop Nason Baluku encouraged people in the district and beyond to embrace and heed Mumbere’s message.
In November 2016, the Omusing, along with more than 200 of his subjects and royal guards were arrested following a UPDF raid on his Buhikira Royal Palace in Kasese district.
Earlier this year, the ODPP dropped all charges, including murder, terrorism, treason, malicious damage to aberty, attempted murder, and aggravated robbery, against Mumbere and his associates.
