Museveni applauds Algeria’s efforts to deepen Uganda-Algeria relations

Discussions centered on implementing bilateral agreements across energy, tourism, agriculture, and education. President Museveni lauded the growing trade partnership, highlighting the increase in Uganda’s coffee exports to Algeria from $13 million to $16 million.

President Yoweri Museveni has commended Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for fostering closer ties between Uganda and Algeria, citing progress in various areas of cooperation.

The remarks followed a meeting between President Museveni and Algeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ahmed Attaf, during the minister’s official visit to Uganda.

Discussions centered on implementing bilateral agreements across energy, tourism, agriculture, and education. President Museveni lauded the growing trade partnership, highlighting the increase in Uganda’s coffee exports to Algeria from $13 million to $16 million.

He also appreciated Algeria’s expanded educational support for Ugandan students, with scholarships rising from 100 to 217. “I’m very happy with the message, and I thank President Tebboune,” Museveni said.

The two leaders also tackled broader regional and international issues, including the African Union agenda, efforts toward Middle East peace, and the decolonization of Western Sahara.

President Museveni reaffirmed Uganda’s support for Kenya’s Raila Odinga in his bid for the African Union Commission chairmanship, while noting Algeria’s request for support for their candidate, Selma Malika Haddadi, who is vying for the vice-chairperson position.

The meeting underscored the deepening partnership between Uganda and Algeria, reflecting strengthened cooperation and shared aspirations across multiple sectors.
