Museveni authorises resumption of Nation Media Group operations in Uganda
Nation Media Group (NMG) has announced the resumption of its operations in Uganda following authorisation by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Nation Media Group (NMG) has announced the resumption of its operations in Uganda following authorisation by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The announcement was made by Taifa Group, the majority shareholder of Nation Media Group through its subsidiary Taarifa Limited, saying the decision marks a significant step towards strengthening media development, regional investment and East African integration.
Taifa Group Chairman, Rostam Azizi, expressed appreciation to President Museveni for approving the return of NMG operations and thanked the Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for his support during engagements that led to the decision.
Azizi said Taifa Group remains committed to responsible investment, good corporate governance and sustainable development across the region.
“We are honoured by this decision and remain steadfast in our commitment to Uganda’s socio-economic development through responsible investment, long-term partnerships and sustainable value creation,” Azizi said.
He added that the Group supports Nation Media Group’s commitment to fair, balanced and independent journalism, noting that a strong and professional media sector contributes to national development, good governance and regional cooperation
Nation Media Group Chairman Joe Muganda said the organisation will now focus on rebuilding its presence in Uganda, reconnecting with audiences, employees, commercial partners and communities.
“Our immediate priority will be to restore our platforms responsibly, strengthen local content and provide Ugandans with credible, relevant and innovative journalism across print, broadcast and digital channels,” Muganda said.
The Group said it will leverage its regional experience and presence in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda to support a resilient media industry while creating opportunities for talent, enterprise and public engagement.
The resumption of operations comes as part of efforts to strengthen Uganda-Tanzania relations and promote cross-border investment, economic cooperation and regional integration within East Africa.
