Museveni disappointed with continued corruption but promises tough action
The NRM is marking 37 years today since the National Resistance Army (NRA) under the leadership of Museveni captured power on January 26, 1986, after a five-year bush war.
President Yoweri Museveni has used this year’s Liberation Day celebrations in Kakumiro District to stress that corruption will be stamped out of the country.
In his speech during the celebration to mark 37 years since the National Resistance Movement (NRM) took over power in 1986, congratulated government agencies that are fighting corruption.
Giving the example of people who had stolen PDM funds but were later arrested and forced to return the money, the President renewed his promise to fight corruption and sectarianism.
He highlighted the youths who he calls bazukulu are crying saying District Service Commissions are selling Local Government jobs to them.
“I have heard the bazukulu crying about the District Service Commissions selling Local Government jobs. I have heard of girls being exploited sexually as bribes for jobs. Please, get evidence and we roast those pigs,” he noted.
The President was so disappointed at DISOs and CIDs who have let corruption flourish in their areas of jurisdiction without reporting it.
“The DISOs and the CIDs should also be on notice. How does such corruption go on in your Area of Responsibility and you do not know or, report it?” he wondered.
The President additionally showed determination in arresting people who promote sectarianism.
He said there are some elements pushing sectarianism of tribe and religion yet this was banished a long time ago.
The President believes that it is both a criminal and electoral offence where somebody can lose his or her seat in an elected office if it is proved that he used sectarianism, even if he or is already elected.
“Why, then, preserve such parasites? Get the evidence and we get rid of them. They can also be persecuted criminally,” he stated.
