NRM speaks out on endorsing M7 ahead of 2026 elections
Speaking to journalists at the end-of-year press conference, Richard Todwong, the Secretary-General of the NRM, said they will implement what the party leadership decides because that is their responsibility.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) secretariat has for the first time spoken out on the ongoing countrywide endorsement of President Yoweri Museveni as the Party’s National Chairperson and flag bearer of the ruling political party in the 2026 presidential elections.
Speaking to journalists at the end-of-year press conference, Richard Todwong, the Secretary-General of the NRM, said they will implement what the party leadership decides because that is their responsibility.
“In February 2019 the Central Executive Committee resolved that H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni should continue leading the party & country in 2021 & beyond. Meaning we have no vacancy for that position. The party leaders made that decision & this is the position of the Secretariat I lead,” Tadwong told the presser.
“We could still have some challenges on the wealth creation pledges because of regulatory and policy-related issues. We believe that the government under the able leadership of His Excellency Museveni has handled these disasters and challenges well,” he added.
Tadwong encouraged party members to desist from speaking ill against the party. “While the NRM party is open to criticism, we urge everyone that no single individual is bigger than the organization. Therefore, as the English say, Step the shoes but don’t spoil the shine, we realize that many people need to be taught about how the party operates,” he said.
