Oyam District Leaders Arrested Over Mismanagement Of Gov’t Funds

Oyam district chairman Benson Dila confirmed the arrest of the trio and linked it to payment of a contractor before executing work.

Members of Parliament (MPs) on the Local Government Public Account Committee have ordered the arrest of Oyam district leaders including the Chief Administrative officer (CAO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and District Health Officer (DHO) over mismanagement of 400 million shillings.

The MPs were Wednesday in Gulu City to assess the utilization of funds by district local governments in financial year 2020/2021.

Oyam district CAO, Walter Eryama, DHO, Dr Steven Malinga, and CFO Orech Geoffrey Orech were handed over to police after it was discovered that they irregularly sent 410 million shillings to an individual account.

After they failed to explain why the money was sent to the individual account the district officials were whisked off to Gulu Central Police station to record statements.

Kole South MP Peter Ocen Akalo who is a member of the Local Government Public Accounts Committee said the trio sent the money to an individual account, which money was meant to facilitate developments in the district in financial year 2020/2021.
