Police arrest 18-year-old for raping midwife

The police mouthpiece warned young female adults to be extra cautious when transacting business on digital platforms to avoid falling victim to fraud stars.

Police in Kampala Metropolitan and Nagalama Division are holding in custody an 18-year-old Facebook scammer who has been luring and raping female job seekers.

It is alleged that Ashraf Lubega from Katosi village in Kisoga sub-county, Mukono district has been promising his victims medical jobs.

Police said Lubega created a fake identity on Facebook calling himself Dr. Ronnie of Medical Scrub Uganda. He used the platform to advertise medical jobs.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga told journalists at Police headquarters in Naguru that the suspect would schedule a meeting with the victims to discuss the terms and conditions for employment.

He would interview the job seekers online through the Medical Scrub Uganda Facebook page.

“The suspect would lure the female victims, briefly interview them and then schedule a meeting to discuss the terms and conditions. He would then cause for the transportation of the victims to an isolated and bushy place where he would drug them to the bush and then sexually assault them,” said Enanga.

Enanga noted that Lubega’s arrest followed the interview he conducted on a 24-year-old midwife from Kireka, Kampala. He then invited her to Ntunda village in Mukono, where he attacked her in a bushy area and then eventually raped her.

He explained that the police crime intelligence and flying squad units tracked down the suspect and arrested him.

“We established he didn’t have a fixed place of aboard; he was sleeping in lodges in Kayunga and Mukono,” said Enanga.
