POLICE CRIME REPORT: Police reports rise in murder by shooting

The 2022 annual police crime report has indicated that at least 296 people were killed arising from murder by shooting, resulting into the areas of Albertine and Rwizi registering more cases of murder.

Uganda police report for 2022 revealed that homicide cases increased from 3,912 in 2021 to 4, 043 in 2022.

More people were killed by assault, 1,085,117 by poisoning, 72 ritual murders, 379 by strangulation [382 strangled], 231 by hacking, murder by mob action 953 [661 people killed].

These cases were high in the Albertine, Rwizi [murder by assault 1,085], Rwenzori West and Greater Masaka among others.

“296 persons were shot dead, 266 were male and 06 Male Juveniles, 19 were Female Adults and 05 were Female Juveniles. 27 cases of Murder by Shooting were still pending in Court,” reads the report.

Other regions included Kotido that registered 29 cases, Napak 29, Agago 14, Kaabong 14, Abim 11.

Karenga, Moroto, Old Kampala, Nakapiripirit, Tororo, Nabilatuk, Kasangati and Kawempe registered 42 cases.

“221 murders were executed in rural areas while 102 in urban areas and 7 on high way. 5 UPDF, 6 police, 1 prison officer and 8 private Security officers were involved in murder by shooting,” the report stated.
