Police in Ebola hit Kassanda district arrests timber truckers

President Yoweri Museveni said Kassanda district is faced with the challenge of the escape of Ebola contacts using trucks carrying timber logs.

The territorial Police in Kassanda district have Thursday afternoon impounded seven vehicles carrying logs from Kikandwa Sub County in Kassanda district, Rachael Kawala, the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson.

Kawala said that preliminary findings indicate some of these were allegedly heading to Kampala contrary to the presidential directive against the fight against Ebola.

The vehicles impounded include UAE 481B, KCK trailer 251V trailer, UBH 680N TATA 10, UBL 774J TATA, UBM 624B TATA10, UBH 350V fuso

These vehicles are currently parked at Kassanda Central Police Station as inquiries continue. “Our operations to implement presidential guidelines against the fight of Ebola are still ongoing in districts of Kassanda and Mubende,” Kawala said in a statement.

Police urged members of the public to comply with the directives put in place.

While addressing the nation on the Ebola virus disease outbreak in the country on 15th November 2022, President Yoweri Museveni said Kassanda district is faced with the challenge of the escape of Ebola contacts using trucks carrying timber logs.

“Additionally, these trucks spend nearly one week in Kasanda loading the logs. This is adequate time for the driver and turnboy to have contact with the communities and get infected. For example, a driver of a timber truck left Kasanda with infection and was found in Busega in Kampala City,” the president said.
