Police officer accidentally shoots self to death

Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) is investigating the circumstances under which Police Constable Colet Twesigye accidentally shot himself while carrying out Normal Safety Precautions (NSP) on guns issued to private companies.

Luke Owoyesigire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, said that upon inspection of the victim’s wound, suicide was ruled out.

Owoyesigire said police also managed to arrest some security guards who were around during the alleged incident to help with investigations.

He said: “All statements that were made during the night and today are correlating that he was doing NSP and accidentally shot himself. We shall go back today at the crime scene and pick up more evidence,”

Owoyesigire added that the victim’s body is at the city mortuary Mulago as the administration of Kira Road Police carries on with preparations to have him taken for burial.
