Police says Joseph Kabuleta was arrested for promoting tribalism
Police appealed to the general public to desist from making statements that may cause discontent, incite violence and instigate hostility among the affected communities.
Political activist and journalist Joseph Kabuleta was yesterday arrested for alleging that social service delivery in Mbarara district is based on ethnic lines of the Tutsi, Bahima, Bakiga and Banyakore, police reveals.
Police in a statement signed by ACP Nabakka S. Claire, the police deputy PRO, detailed that on 30th May 2022 in Kampala, Kabuleta and others still at large, made the allegation at a press conference.
Kabuleta convened the press conference under their Political Party, National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED).
Nabakka said Kabuleta was summoned to report to Kampala Metropolitan Police Headquarters on 3rd November 2022 at 1000hrs for interview and statement recording on charges of promoting sectarianism something he didn’t do.
Police said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations commenced general inquiry into Kabuleta’s tribal talk on the 14th June 2022 to verify allegations his utterances.
Police explains that Kabuleta’s allegations are likely to create alienation or despondency, raise discontent or disaffection and promote feelings of ill will or hostility among members of the public.
And for that matter Kabuleta and others shall be charged with Promoting Sectarianism as under C/S 41(1) of the PCA CAP 120.
