Rwamirama tips farmers on efficient agriculture methods
Rwamirama was speaking during the closing of a three-day scientific conference by the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) and Makerere University.
The state minister for agriculture in charge of animal husbandry Col. (Rtd) Bright Rwamirama wants farmers to embrace highly efficient methods of agriculture.
Rwamirama was speaking during the closing of a three-day scientific conference by the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) and Makerere University at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
Rwamirama now wants farmers to use advanced methods of agriculture like irrigation to restore their fertility.
“The overgrowing population has resulted in the increased exploitation of resources to provide food and water to the masses. In return this has resulted in soil degradation, water pollution, and soil endangerment among others,” he said.
Rwamirama also called for the inclusion of youths in the agricultural sector.
“With the numerous interventions made to bring Uganda to a middle-income status, experts think there is still a need for more investments in the agricultural sector and inclusion of the youth,” he explains.
The vice chancellor of Makerere University Professor Barnabas Nawangwe has asked the government to increase the budget for research, especially in the agricultural sector.
