Electoral Commission releases roadmap for Kikuube district chairperson by-election

The Electoral Commission has unveiled a detailed electoral programme for the by-election of the Kikuube District Chairperson, setting polling day for June 10, 2026.
According to a press release issued by the Commission, the roadmap outlines a series of activities leading up to the vote, beginning with a stakeholders’ meeting and press briefing scheduled for April 27.
The update of the National Voters’ Register at parish level will take place from April 28 to April 30, which also marks the deadline for new voter registration and transfer of voting locations within the district.
The Commission will then proceed with the display of the voters’ register at polling stations from May 8 to May 12, allowing residents to verify their details.
Candidate nominations are scheduled for May 25 and 26 at the Kikuube District headquarters, followed by a period for inspection of nomination papers and lodging of complaints running until June 1.
Campaigns will officially run from May 28 to June 8, giving candidates nearly two weeks to canvass for support ahead of polling day.
The Commission also indicated that recruitment and training of polling officials, as well as issuance of voter location slips, will be conducted in early June to ensure smooth conduct of the exercise.
Polling and tallying of results will take place on June 10, 2026.
In the statement signed by the EC Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, the Commission called upon all stakeholders in Kikuube District to actively participate in the process in line with established electoral guidelines.
The by-election follows the creation of a vacancy in the district chairperson position, following the death of the Kikuube District LC5 Chairperson Banura Peter on 4th January 2026. The electoral body now moving to ensure continuity in local leadership through a constitutionally mandated process.
