URA FC BUL FC Nakisunga Saza Ground – Mukono 4pm

Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, is traditionally the home ground of Express Football Club, but times have changed, it is also now the home of SC Villa, Express FC’s archrival.

And today, Wankuluku will be SC Villa’s home when they host their perennial rival Express FC in the Uganda Premier League.  Quite awkward to hear SC Villa call Wankulukuku home when they take on Express FC.

While SC Villa continues life without a home ground, the rivalry between the two clubs each year gives football fans in Uganda something to look out and this season, the stakes are high. Who truly owns Wankuluku?

Dubbed the Kampala Derby, SC Villa versus Express FC gives the fans, players and coaches the adrenaline that comes with the game of football.

The two teams come into the game tied on the same points (four) and coincidently, picked from the same venues – a point at Bombo and three at Wankulukuku.

Villa beat Gaddafi 2-0 at home before drawing goalless with Onduparaka at Bombo while Express picked their first point at Bombo in a 1-1 draw with UPDF and won 1-0 against URA at Wankulukuku.

Nelly Magera, the SC Villa Coach, goes into this game with maximum respect for their rival but assures that they have prepared well for the game.

“It is a very big game against a long-time rival but we have prepared well to overcome such a fixture,” Magera told UPL.

He however is quick to highlight the bluntness his team has in front of the goals and that worries him.

“We didn’t score in the last game which explains problems as far as the offensive side is concerned but we have been working on the area and we hope to get all points.”

James Odoch, the Express FC Coach believes that even when the fixture says SC Villa is hosting them, Wankulukuku remains their home.

“We have the aura of Wankulukuku and it feels like home already. We are prepared. SC Villa is our traditional rival however we have a good record against them recently and we are looking forward to keeping it this way,” he said.

In the other game of the day, URA FC faces table leaders BUL FC at Nakisunga Saza Ground – Mukono.

The tax collectors have had a bad start to the season picking only one point in their previous encounters, unlike Bul FC who top the log with six points.
