Science minister engages Luweero Industries on manufacturing and innovation growth
The discussions focused on advancing manufacturing capacity, promoting technology commercialisation, reducing reliance on imports through import substitution, and improving Uganda’s competitiveness in export markets

NAKASONGOLA, Uganda — The Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki, has visited Luweero Industries Ltd in Nakasongola District for strategic discussions aimed at strengthening Uganda’s manufacturing and innovation agenda.
During the engagement, the minister met with the company’s leadership and technical teams alongside officials from the STI Mobility Bureau, Infrastructure Bureau, and Kiira Motors Corporation (KMC) to explore opportunities for collaboration in industrial development.
The discussions focused on advancing manufacturing capacity, promoting technology commercialisation, reducing reliance on imports through import substitution, and improving Uganda’s competitiveness in export markets.
The engagement forms part of government efforts under the Ten-Fold Growth Strategy, which seeks to accelerate economic transformation through increased production, innovation, and value addition.
The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation said the visit reflects its commitment to using science, technology, and innovation as key drivers of industrialisation, local manufacturing growth, and the creation of a globally competitive economy.
