Security forces ruthless hunt for suspected Dodoth warriors continues
Longole emphasized that they are making every effort to recover the stolen cattle and maintain peaceful relations between the two communities.
The joint security forces in Kaabong district are hunting for suspected Karimojong warriors who crossed into Turkana County, Kenya and raided 30 cows.
The armed group of Dodoth warriors is said to have entered Turkana in Kenya at Nawontos, 10 kilometers away from the border on October 16, 2023.
Forces said tracks from the hooves and footprints led them to Kurao Parish in Kalapata Sub County, Kaabong district where the warriors divided the stolen cattle.
Michael Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, stated that “joint forces consisting of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit and the UPDF army have initiated a search for the stolen cows and the raiders.”
Longole emphasized that they are making every effort to recover the stolen cattle and maintain peaceful relations between the two communities.
He also mentioned that in an act of revenge, “Turkana warriors blocked the road to Kenya via Kamion to Nawontos on Tuesday at 10:30 AM, during which they robbed motorcycle and taxi operators and damaged their motorcycles before releasing them.”
This incident occurred as security forces conducted operations to remove all Turkana pastoralists grazing in the Karamoja sub-region, following an executive order by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in May 2023.
On Wednesday, a joint security team from Kenya met with political leaders and the security team in Moroto district to discuss the best strategies for combating criminal activities along the borders.
