TotalEnergies Professeurs Associés programme strengthens Uganda’s energy talent

Makerere University recently hosted another series of TotalEnergies Professeurs Associés (TPA) courses, delivering industry-relevant knowledge directly to students.
Led by a mix of retired and active TotalEnergies professionals alongside international professors, the sessions offered participants insights that bridge classroom theory with practical technical competence.
Across three intensive, week-long courses, over 80 undergraduate and postgraduate students deepened their understanding of key geoscience and petroleum concepts.
Modules ranged from Basin Analysis to Prospect Evaluation, Well Logs and Test Interpretation, and Petrel Geoscience Applications, equipping students with skills directly aligned with industry expectations.
Since its launch in 2012, TotalEnergies EP Uganda’s TPA programme has supported more than 30 specialized courses at Kyambogo University, Makerere University Business School, and Makerere University itself.
To date, over 1,400 students have benefited, gaining expertise across diverse oil and gas disciplines and contributing to the growth of local talent in Uganda’s energy sector.
These training initiatives, spanning vocational certification, industrial internships, graduate trainee programmes, international postgraduate scholarships, the MSc Studentship programme, the Tilenga Academy Training Programme, and the TPA initiative, are equipping young Ugandans with the technical skills and global exposure necessary to lead in a modern energy industry.
By strengthening national capability and building a skilled workforce, these programmes are laying the foundation for Uganda’s energy sector competitiveness, supporting the Tilenga Project, and advancing the country’s broader development ambitions for decades to come.
