UEDCL pledges two transformers for Namutumba Town Council, Namutumba District following Azalwa’s plea in Parliament

Recently, UEDCL officials together with Hon. Azalwa, convened an engagement meeting with stakeholders and members of the public at the Namutumba Town Council headquarters.
During the meeting, UEDCL pledged to provide two transformers to increase capacity and ensure residents can access electricity reliably.
While addressing the gathering, Hon. Azalwa Joel stated that his advocacy in Parliament had yielded results. He pledged to follow up until the transformers are installed, adding that they are expected to be delivered within one month.
He further noted that one transformer will be installed in Kangulumo and the second in Namutumba B.
He also announced plans to extend electricity lines to other areas within the constituency, citing Nawaikona and Namutumba Sub-counties.
Eng. Mugweri, an official from UEDCL, stated that the specific challenge affecting Namutumba Town was an overloaded transformer.
“The good news is that I can confirm Namutumba Town Council will receive two new transformers so that our customers can access adequate power and run their businesses conveniently,” he said.
He urged the community to cooperate with UEDCL in addressing any challenges that may arise.
The business community in Namutumba Town Council, led by their chairman Kayongo Faizal, commended Hon. Azalwa Joel Waiswa for decisively presenting the issue of intermittent electricity on the floor of Parliament, which has severely affected their operations. They expressed optimism that the provision of the two transformers will lead to improved business performance.
“Here in Namutumba Town Council we are grappling with intermittent power supply. Our businesses are at risk. The existing power lines spark during rainfall and strong winds, and we fear the entire town could be razed. Even the little power we receive is erratic,” the community stated.
Therefore, they expressed hope in the two new transformers slated for installation and urged their legislator to continue championing their pressing challenges on the floor of Parliament.
