UEDCL, UETCL inspect progress of $83.3m greater Kampala power upgrade project

The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) and Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) have conducted a joint evaluation visit to assess progress of the USD 83.3 million Greater Kampala Metropolitan Transmission System Improvement Project.
The visit was led by UEDCL Managing Director Eng. Joselynne Rwabwogo, together with members of the company’s senior management team, and UETCL Chief Executive Officer Eng. Richard Matsiko.
The project aims to improve the quality, reliability and resilience of electricity supply in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area, covering Kampala City, Wakiso, Mukono and Mpigi districts.
Once completed, the infrastructure upgrade is expected to increase network capacity, reduce power supply constraints and support rising electricity demand in Uganda’s major commercial and industrial hub.
Following recent planned power interruptions in the area, the two electricity agencies engaged the media at Kampala North Substation to explain the importance of the ongoing works under the Kampala Metro Project.
Officials said the temporary disruptions are part of essential upgrades aimed at creating a stronger and more dependable electricity network for consumers in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.
