Uganda Human Rights Commission dismisses allegations against commissioner Crispin Kaheru over generator, vehicle
In a statement issued on Friday, July 24, 2026, the Commission said the allegations emerged from videos circulating on social media following an interface between UHRC members and Parliament’s Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee on July 21.
The Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has dismissed allegations that Commissioner Crispin Kaheru irregularly possessed a generator and motor vehicle belonging to the Commission, describing the claims as false and malicious.
In a statement issued on Friday, July 24, 2026, the Commission said the allegations emerged from videos circulating on social media following an interface between UHRC members and Parliament’s Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee on July 21.
The Commission clarified that Hon. Kaheru received the generator and motor vehicle through established internal administrative procedures while carrying out his official duties.
UHRC said the items are no longer in Kaheru’s possession, explaining that he voluntarily returned them to the Commission’s custody in the interest of maintaining institutional harmony.
“The allegations are false, malicious and intended to tarnish the Commissioner’s reputation,” the Commission stated.
The Commission called on the public to disregard what it described as baseless claims, urging reliance on verified information regarding its operations and officials.
The statement was issued by UHRC Public Affairs Manager Alex Bukumunhe.
