Uganda permits Visa-Free entry for DR Congo citizens
According to Article 7(2) (d), partner states are required to allow citizens of other partner states to enter without a visa
Uganda has scrapped visa requirements for Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) citizens effective January 1, 2024 Charmar News has learnt.
According to Internal Affairs Spokesperson Simon Peter Mundeyi, the decision was made following DRC’s entry into the East African Community as a full member on July 11, 2022.
“The East African Community Market Protocol is based on the principle of free movement of persons. According to Article 7(2) (d), partner states are required to allow citizens of other partner states to enter without a visa,” he said in a statement dated December 16, 2023.
Mundeyi further noted that during the 8th joint Permanent Commission held on October 11-15,2023 in Kisansha, both parties agreed in principle to waive the visa requirement for citizens of both countries on a reciprocal basis.
“Following the above agreement, Cabinet Minute 374(CT 2023) considered the matter, and it was resolved to remove the visa requirement for Ugandan and Congolese nationals to enter and exit the DRC and Uganda, respectively,” he said.
He added that the Ministry of Internal Affairs is ready to implement this directive from 1st January 2024.
