Ugandan military kills senior ADF commander in eastern DR Congo

Ugandan troops, together with their DRC counterparts, launched joint attacks on the rebel group in November 2022.

The Ugandan military on Wednesday said it has killed a senior commander of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels, who was also an improvised explosive device (IED) expert, in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Uganda’s deputy military spokesperson Col. Deo Akiiki said Uganda People’s Defense Forces killed Seka Wankaba in Mwalika Valley, North Kivu province in the eastern DRC around 1:30 p.m. local time.

He said Wankaba was a Ugandan and a member of ADF rebel leader Mularo Seguja’s group and a highly trained IED expert.

“Our troops won’t relent till (the) ADF command and control structure is fully decimated,” Akiiki said in a statement.

The ADF, also a branch of the Islamic State in central Africa, has been holed up in the jungles of eastern DRC. The rebel group is blamed for causing havoc and mounting attacks in North Kivu and Ituri provinces in eastern DRC.
