With the UAE visa amnesty program set to expire on October 31st, 2024, many Ugandans living illegally in the Emirates are caught between regularizing their status or facing forced exit.
Launched in September, the amnesty program provides a unique window for those with expired or overstayed visas to avoid hefty fines and evade immigration arrests.
However, beyond the immediate pressure to comply, the program also presents a critical moment of opportunity. Ugandans who manage to regularize their status could gain access to legitimate job offers, as several UAE companies are reportedly offering employment to those who legalize their stay.
The amnesty benefits include waivers on overstay penalties, no entry ban for those who exit, and eligibility for future visa applications—including residency and tourist visas.
