UNEB directs schools to display candidate lists to prevent exam registration confusion

This step is crucial to avoid situations where students discover they are unregistered at the start of the examination period.

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has directed all heads of examination centers to comply with the UNEB Act 2021, Section 4(2), by publicly displaying the list of students registered to sit for exams. This measure aims to prevent last-minute confusion and ensure transparency during the examination period.

“This year’s mandatory display period will run from 12th August to 11th October, 2024. Candidates’ registers should be prominently displayed on school notice boards where they are registered, allowing parents to confirm the registration status of their learners,” stated Daniel Odongo, UNEB Executive Director.

Odongo urged parents with children in schools that do not have UNEB center status to verify where their children have been registered and ensure their proper registration.

This step is crucial to avoid situations where students discover they are unregistered at the start of the examination period.

“If a student with proof of payment for registration fees is not duly registered, parents should report to UNEB immediately for remedial action. UNEB will also provide an SMS option on mobile phones during the display period,” Odongo added.

He emphasized that the accuracy of candidates’ biodata is the joint responsibility of the candidates, heads of centers, and parents. They should carefully review and confirm the spelling and order of names, date of birth (in the format Day, Month, Year), gender, and the visibility of the candidate’s photograph.

In previous years, parents and students have faced the unfortunate situation where candidates, despite paying the required fees, were not registered for their final exams. This often leads to disappointment and discouragement, contributing to high dropout rates.

UNEB’s directive aims to prevent such scenarios and ensure that all registered students are eligible to sit for their exams without issues.
