UPDF officers attack police station in Lubowa, beat up police officers

A fracas ensued at Lubowa Police Station, which is under the Kajansi Police Division, when Special Forces Command (SFC) soldiers of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) attacked the police post, beating up and injuring officers and civilians who were at the station.
According to an account by Uganda Police, on 30th April 2025, at 1600 hours, a one Lt. Sumuson Amor of the SFC came to Lubowa police with eight suspects whom he said he had arrested from the NSSF estate. Out of the 08 suspects, two were army officers.
Lt. Amor went to the counter and explained to the police officer at the counter, a police report says, adding, The officer at the counter did not understand well why the suspects were arrested; the UPDF officer was insisting that the suspects should be detained, but the case was not clear according to police, and the suspects had been assaulted.
The officer at the counter took the UPDF officer to the OC station to manage the situation better.
“As the OC station was still explaining to the UPDF officer another UPDF patrol car H4DF 3348 came with other UPDF officers (SFC) and started beating police officers and civilian found at Police,” the report recounts.

After assaulting the police officers, the soldiers jumped into their cars and took off but went with the phones of police officers, including that of the OC station. Charges of attempted murder and robbery have been opened at Lubowa police under SD ref 25/30/04/2025.
