Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) in Entebbe Friday received a newborn giraffe. UWEC said the birth of the tallest land animal is something remarkable and a milestone in the captive breeding of the species.
“We have a newborn giraffe, just a few days after celebrating the annual World Giraffe Day on 21st June,” UWEC said on social media.
“The latest calf born in the wee hours of Friday is a success story of our breeding program. The calf & mother are under close monitoring. UWEC’s herd now numbers four.”
Dr. Racheal Mbabazi, the manager of Animal & Horticulture at UWEC says that vets & animal caregivers will be monitoring the baby giraffe 24/7.
The Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Center is a fun and exciting place where people go to see and learn about the animals of Uganda and the ecosystems in which they live.
