WHO donates Shs3.6bn to Uganda to equip Ebola Treatment Units
World Health Organization (WHO) has today, Friday 9th December 2022 donated supplies worth $995,000 (Shs3.6bn) to the Ministry of Health.
This money will be used to equip the new Ebola Treatment Units (ETUs) at Mulago Hospital and other ETUs in Masaka and Jinja.
This contribution was made by the British High Commission in Uganda, the Embassy of Sweden and the government of Luxembourgish.
The donations also include incinerators, generators, tents & flooring. It also covers airfare for the importation of these equipment to Uganda.
“This equipment is timely to strengthen our Ebola preparedness & response activities in the country. Some of it will be sent to equip the newly commissioned 56-bed treatment unit in Mulago,” Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the health minister said.
Dr Charles Njuguna, Incident Manager at WHO Uganda said well designed & equipped ETUs improve the chance of patient’s survival.
“These supplies will go a long way in improving the perception & actual quality of care offered to patients in the event of more Ebola cases in the country,” Dr Njuguna said.
“Through the International Humanitarian Partnership network, the government of Luxembourg is able to contribute to this multinational operation providing equipment & logistics support in the context of the Ebola outbreak in Uganda,” said Max Lamesch, Director for Humanitarian Action, MFEA Luxembourg.
