Police in Kiira Region is investigating the circumstance under which a 30-year-old man died in a boiler inside a sweets factory at Kakira Sugar Limited in Jinja, eastern Uganda.
The deceased, identified as Samuel Dhatemwa, met his death early morning on Wednesday after sliding into a boiler while filling the gas in the boiler system.
Casual labourers who spoke to Charmar News said the section between the heating point and the gas filling area is slippery and often exposes them to accidents.
They also revealed that they are not offered protective gear to safeguard them from injuries in the risky areas.
The head of safety and security at Kakira Sugar Limited, Lawrence Iriiso, said that the sugar confectionary factory has been closed to pave way for investigations into the matter.
James Mubi, the Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson, said that the deceased’s body was been taken to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
