KAMPALA, Uganda — A Canadian citizen has been remanded to Luzira Prison over allegations of fraud involving a gold transaction dispute worth about $1.5 million (approximately Shs5.5 billion).

Michel Faille, 64, appeared before Kampala Chief Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa on Friday, where he was sent to prison until August 12, 2026, to allow police complete investigations into the matter.

Prosecution informed court that Faille is accused of obtaining money from individuals through alleged false representations in connection with gold business dealings.

The case has highlighted growing concerns over fraud risks in high-value mineral transactions, particularly within the gold sector, where authorities have continued to investigate suspected financial crimes.

Faille will return to court on August 12 for further mention of the case as investigations continue. He remains innocent until proven guilty.
