Uganda endorses Olara Otunnu for United Nations Secretary-General position

Uganda has officially endorsed Ambassador Olara Otunnu as its candidate for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Ambassador Otunnu’s nomination was backed by his extensive diplomatic experience, including his service as Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, President of the UN Security Council, and later as UN Under-Secretary-General and Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict.
- The briefing was attended by Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, and Special Envoy Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda, who expressed confidence in Otunnu’s ability to provide strong leadership to the global body.
Uganda said it will engage the international community to build support for Otunnu’s candidature, highlighting his experience, competence, and commitment to global service.
