Gen. Katumba Wamala retires after 47 years of military service
Gen. Katumba said he completed the 47 years of service on July 31, 2026, marking the end of what he described as a significant chapter in his life.
The Minister of Public Service, Gen. Katumba Wamala has marked the completion of 47 years of military service, describing his career in uniform as a lifetime journey of dedication, commitment and service to Uganda.

Reflecting on his military career, Katumba expressed gratitude to God, his comrades, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the people of Uganda for giving him the opportunity to serve the country.
“47 years in uniform. 47 years of service to Uganda,” Katumba said.
He described his journey as one undertaken with dedication, commitment and love for Uganda, acknowledging the contribution of fellow service members and the wider public throughout his years in uniform.
“As I close this chapter, I do so with deep gratitude to God, my comrades, the UPDF and the people of Uganda for the privilege to serve,” he said.
Katumba’s 47-year military journey marks a long career in Uganda’s armed forces, spanning several decades of the country’s history.
As he reflects on his years of service, the General said his connection to the country remains enduring.
“A lifetime in service. A country forever in my heart,” he said.
His milestone comes as he continues to serve in government as the Minister of Public Service, following decades in military service and leadership within the UPDF.
