Funeral was held for Kenneth Kaijuka Amooti as calls grow for action on Kampala–Fort Portal Road

A funeral service has been held for Kenneth Kaijuka Amooti, who tragically died in a road accident along the Kampala–Fort Portal Road in Mubende.

The service was attended by family members, including Chairman Chris Kaijuka, who mourned Kenneth as a devoted family man who loved his children and lived a meaningful life. Some of his children were also involved in the accident but survived.

During the service, condolences were conveyed to the Kaijuka family, while appreciation was extended to the police, army, first responders, and all those who worked to rescue children trapped in the wreckage after a container fell on the vehicle for several hours.

The tragedy has renewed concerns about the condition of the Kampala–Fort Portal Road, with eyewitnesses attributing the accident to a combination of factors, including the poor state of the road and reckless driving by the trailer driver whose vehicle fell on Kenneth’s car.

Government officials acknowledged the concerns raised by residents of Tooro, admitting that delays in completing the road had caused frustration and suffering. President Yoweri Museveni has taken interest in the matter, while Works Minister Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala has engaged the contractor, Energo Projekts, over completion timelines.

The government apologized for the delays, noting that the road was initially expected to be completed in 2024 but faced several challenges. The new completion deadline has been set for April 2027, with a commitment that no further delays should occur.

All four children involved in the accident survived and are undergoing recovery.

Kenneth Kaijuka Amooti and his longtime driver, who was buried earlier, were remembered as the country mourns the loss of lives caused by road accidents.
