Former Police Officer pays tribute to Gen. Katumba Wamala, credits him for mentorship and career growth
In a message addressed to Gen. Katumba, the officer, recalled how, shortly after taking over as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Katumba appointed him as Acting Head of the Community Affairs Department and encouraged him to strengthen community policing.

A senior former Uganda Police officer, AIGP (Rtd) Asan Kasingye, has paid a heartfelt tribute to Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala who is retiring from the army.
Kasingye praised Katumba Wamala whi is the current Minister of Public Service for his mentorship, leadership, and role in shaping his career in the security forces.
In a message addressed to Gen. Katumba on X, Kasingye recalled how, shortly after taking over as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Katumba appointed him as Acting Head of the Community Affairs Department and encouraged him to strengthen community policing.
He said Katumba recognised his potential after following his radio programmes on CBS Radio and entrusted him with key responsibilities, including writing speeches, handling public engagements, and managing important offices within the police
The officer revealed that he received three promotions during Katumba’s four-year tenure as IGP, rising from Superintendent of Police (SP) to Commissioner of Police (CP), before later attaining the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP).
He credited Gen. Katumba’s guidance and personal advice on balancing family, health, and public service as instrumental in his career development.
The tribute described Katumba as a “visionary leader, patriot, commander, mentor and father,” while wishing him success in retirement from military service and his continued role in serving the country.
