Judiciary explains delay in Ggaba daycare Killer’s appeal
The judiciary dismissed claims that the matter has received special treatment or that there is an intentional delay in handling the appeal, explaining that cases are processed according to their position in the queue.

The Judiciary has clarified that the appeal filed by convicted Ggaba daycare killer Christopher Okello Onyum is still pending before the Court of Appeal due to the court’s “first in, first out” case management system.
The judiciary dismissed claims that the matter has received special treatment or that there is an intentional delay in handling the appeal, explaining that cases are processed according to their position in the queue.
Onyum, who was sentenced to death after being convicted of murdering four children at a daycare centre in Ggaba, appealed against both his conviction and sentence, challenging the trial court’s evaluation of evidence and rejection of his insanity defence.
The Judiciary said the Court of Appeal remains committed to ensuring that all cases are handled fairly and transparently while following established procedures for managing appeals.
The Ggaba daycare killings attracted national attention after Onyum was convicted over the deaths of four toddlers at the Early Childhood Development Centre in April 2026.
