Former Bush War commander urges diaspora Ugandans to invest in agriculture and mining

A former commander during Uganda’s 1981–1986 Bush War, Col. (Rtd.) Samson Mande has been praised for his efforts to invest in the country’s agriculture and mining sectors.

The remarks were made after a meeting with Col. (Rtd.) Mande, where his commitment to contributing to Uganda’s economic development through productive investments was highlighted.

The call encouraged more Ugandans living abroad to consider investing back home, noting that the country has numerous opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, mining, manufacturing, and other areas capable of driving economic growth.

“Let us invest in Uganda, create jobs, promote local content, and contribute to our country’s economic transformation,” the message stated.

The move is part of a broader appeal for Ugandans in the diaspora to participate in national development by bringing in capital, skills, and innovation to support local industries and create employment opportunities.

Agriculture and mining remain among Uganda’s key sectors with the potential to boost exports, increase household incomes, and strengthen the country’s economic transformation agenda.
