The Bank of Uganda (BoU) has joined efforts to support the 2026 Rotary Cancer Run, with its staff Workout Club participating in an activation aimed at creating awareness and mobilising support for the annual cancer fundraising campaign.

The activation, held at the Bank’s Kampala Road headquarters, was led by Deputy Governor Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, who handed over the institution’s contribution to Rotary Cancer Run officials led by the 2026 Cancer Run Chairperson, Rtn Meddie Lutaaya

BoU contributed Shs33.1 million towards the cause, comprising Shs 30 million in direct financial support and Shs3.1 million through the purchase of Cancer Run kits.

The Rotary Clubs of Uganda will hold the 2026 Cancer Run on August 30, with a target of raising Shs5 billion to support the completion of the Cancer Centre at Nsambya Hospital.

Speaking during the activation, Prof. Nuwagaba said a healthy population is essential for a strong and productive economy, noting that cancer prevention and treatment require collective efforts.

The Bank of Uganda emphasized the importance of cancer awareness, regular screening, early detection, and access to appropriate treatment, which are among the key objectives of the Rotary Cancer Run.
