Uganda Medical Association proposes Ebola lockdown for Kampala
Dr Oledo noted that Ugandans are taking the Ebola outbreak as something so minor yet it is catastrophic.
Kampala city should be under lockdown as a measure to prevent the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease, Uganda Medical Association (UMA) president, Dr Samuel Oledo, has proposed.
“Kampala should have restriction of movement; let us hold Kampala when it is still early. The earlier we lockdown Kampala the better,” Dr Oledo is quoted by Daily Monitor as saying while appearing on the KFM Hotseat talk show on Monday.
Dr Oledo noted that Ugandans are taking the Ebola outbreak as something so minor yet it is catastrophic.
The minister for health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Monday confirmed that Ebola had entered Kampala and called residents in the City and greater Kampala to report themselves to designated health facilities if they suspect to have contracted Ebola.
“Yesterday 23rd Oct 2022, nine individuals were confirmed positive for Ebola in the Greater Kampala region bringing the total number of cases to 14 in the last 48 hours, “ the minister said Monday morning.
“Seven family members are from Masanafu and one health worker who managed him in a private clinic together with his wife from Seguku,” she added.
“Fellow Ugandans, let’s be vigilant. Report yourself if you have had contact or know of a person who has had contact. Let’s cooperate to end Ebola,” she said.
