Another One: Award-wnning Danish environmental journalist, Klaus Thymann, detained in Kampala
The development comes at a sensitive time as Uganda continues to face scrutiny over recent actions involving journalists, independent media organisations and civic actors.

Klaus Thymann, an award-winning Danish environmental journalist and explorer known for documenting climate change in Africa, has been arrested in Kampala under circumstances that are attracting both local and international attention.
Thymann, whose conservation work in Uganda’s Rwenzori Mountains gained global recognition, was reportedly detained during engagements with authorities concerning permits linked to research and environmental documentation activities.
Security officials confirmed that the Danish national is currently being held at Kira Road Police Station pending further investigations.
Authorities are also reportedly considering transferring the case to Kasese District, where the alleged offences are believed to have taken place.
For years, Thymann has been internationally respected for combining journalism, science and exploration to raise awareness about disappearing glaciers, biodiversity loss and environmental degradation.
His work on the melting Rwenzori glaciers helped place Uganda at the centre of global climate discussions.
Although officials have not yet disclosed the specific charges against him, the detention has already sparked concern among conservation groups, journalists and human rights observers who fear the incident may affect Uganda’s standing within the international research and media community.
