Brig Gen Asaph Nyakikuru appointed acting SFC Commander
Brig Gen Nyakikuru has also been granted the acting rank of Major General, with both the appointment and promotion taking immediate effect.
Kampala, Uganda — Monday, August 3, 2026
The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations (SPA/SO), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has appointed Brig Gen Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru as the acting Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC).
Brig Gen Nyakikuru has also been granted the acting rank of Major General, with both the appointment and promotion taking immediate effect.
He replaces Maj Gen David Mugisha, who will soon leave for the National Defence College (NDC) course abroad as part of his continued strategic security training.
In a statement, the UPDF thanked Maj Gen Mugisha for his “outstanding tour of duty” as SFC Commander and wished him success in his upcoming studies.
The force also congratulated Acting Maj Gen Nyakikuru on his appointment and promotion, wishing him success as he takes on his new responsibilities.
The announcement was made by Col Chris Magezi, Acting Director Defence Public Information at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA/UPDF).
